WHAT IS 'HOOK AND LINE CAUGHT'?

Hook and line caught is just what it sounds like: fish caught with an old-fashioned hook and line system. By using this method we are able to bring you a far superior product because we handle every fish by hand as it comes onto the boat. This prevents bruising and softening of the flesh, and means that we never, never use a vacuum to suck tons of fish off of a boat like net fishers do. We also always catch our fish in the open ocean, before they hit the rivers and lose much of the Omega-3 Fatty Oils they've stored for the long trip inland. In addition, the temperatures are much colder in the ocean as compared to the river and the fish is in prime physical condition – meaning that you are buying the absolute pinnacle of fresh seafood available today.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET MY PRODUCT ONCE I'VE ORDERED?

That depends. We only ship our fresh seafood on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. The day we ship yours depends on whether you'd like to receive it on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Arrival to most locations takes one (1) business day, though some locations take two days. If you would like to know how long your package will take to ship, please contact us by calling 616-719-5408 or send an email to help@oceanhooked.com.

But why the strict schedule? We want to make sure you get your seafood fresh! If it sits in a warehouse over the weekend, your Ocean Hooked seafood will not be tasting to its full potential. Our process ensures that you will always get the freshest product possible.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FISH ONCE IT'S CAUGHT?

The fish caught by Ocean Hooked fishers go through several measures to ensure their quality. Fist, immediately after being hauled onto the boat, the individual fish is bled to help preserve the meat in its prime state. The fish is then put on ice. After the day's catch is had, the fishing boat races back to the Noyes Island Processing Plant – our exclusive processing facility – where the catch is immediately unloaded, fish by fish, and brought into the plant. The fish is then filleted by a skilled Noyes Island employee, knowing time is of the essence. The fish is then plate frozen. This process is all timed perfectly to ensure that Ocean Hooked is the next best thing to catching it yourself and eating it for dinner the same night.

WHY ALL THE TALK OF SUSTAINABILITY?

All members of the Ocean Hooked family are conscious of their impact on the planet and its inhabitants. We know that now, more than ever, paying attention to how our business impacts and changes the climate and conditions we live in and rely on is incredibly crucial.

By its very nature, the Ocean Hooked business model is sustainable. Hook-and-line fishing limits catch size, reducing the chance of overfishing the beautiful Alaskan waters. Couple that with strict Alaskan Fisheries laws, and you have an organization that is as responsible as it is productive. Please visit our values page for more information.
